Breast reduction surgery makes overly large breasts smaller and lighter. By reducing the weight of the breasts, symptoms such as back pain, neck pain and bra strap grooving are alleviated. Because the reduction lifts the breast, the result is typically a smaller, more shapely breast.

Dr. Wolfe and Dr. Vath understand that breast reduction must be carefully customized for each woman. There are several types of breast reduction techniques. The surgical option that is best for you depends upon your breast exam and your cosmetic goals. It is not possible to reduce a breast without scarring. The scarring will be around the areola with a vertical component that extends down from the areola to the crease below the breast. No incisions are ever made above the areola. Sometimes, an additional scar is necessary below the breast in the crease in order to provide the best results possible. Every attempt is made to limit scarring without compromising the ultimate shape and size of the breasts.

Breast feeding is usually possible after a breast reduction. A small percentage of women will have some difficulty. Every attempt is made to preserve as many milk ducts as possible to ensure the best chance of being able to nurse after a reduction.
