About Dr. Law
Dr. Michael Law is a board-certified plastic surgeon. He grew up in Raleigh where his father, Reverend Thomas Law, served as pastor of St. Paul's Christian Church for 30 years. Dr. Law attended Broughton High School. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He received his M.D. degree at Emory University, where he graduated magna cum laude, second in his class of over 100 graduating physicians.

Dr. Law then traveled west to California. He elected to pursue a rigorous ten year training program that includes general surgery residency at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), plastic surgery residency at the University of Southern California (USC), and a plastic surgery fellowship at USC. His ten years of formal training following medical school amount to twice that of some plastic surgeons.

Dr. Law is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has authored and co-authored publications appearing in peer-reviewed journals and surgical textbooks, and he has made presentations at regional and national meetings throughout the United States. Since 2004 his North Carolina practice and medical spa have twice been featured on the cover of Plastic Surgery News, the official news journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Upon completing his surgical training, he remained in California where he had a successful aesthetic plastic surgery practice in Beverly Hills. North Carolina always seemed like home, however, and in 2002 he made the decision to leave California and bring his exceptional training and talents to his hometown of Raleigh. He still sees patients from California and all parts of the country who seek natural results from plastic surgery. Dr. Law resides in Raleigh with his wife Kile and their two young sons, Luke and Lang.

Dr. Law has been recognized in many "best of" polls since opening his Raleigh, North Carolina plastic surgery practice. His practice has been featured in national magazines, newscasts and television programs.

Dr. Law performs plastic surgery in a hospital O.R. and provides a complimentary overnight hospital stay with medical observation to enhance patient comfort and to provide peace of mind to patients and their families.

Dr. Law's Philosophy
When you get right down to it, nobody really needs aesthetic cosmetic surgery.

It is really a matter of whether or not an individual wants aesthetic cosmetic surgery. God makes us all (and all of our parts) in different shapes and sizes, and beauty is not merely in the eyes of the beholder, but also in the eyes of the beheld.

That being said, aesthetic cosmetic surgery can have a positive, powerful and lasting impact on a person's life. You may be absolutely certain that you want to have a particular procedure performed, and I am continually amazed at how thoroughly many patients have educated themselves about specific procedures prior to their consultation. Alternately, you may not yet know what possibilities exist for improving a feature that you would like to change. Or you may not be able to pinpoint exactly what feature it is that 'ages' you.

In any case, the only way to truly decide whether or not to "have something done" is to get the best information available from a source with experience and appropriate credentials, whom you trust with your well-being. That information includes a thorough understanding of all options available (both surgical and non-surgical), and it should be provided by someone that understands your aesthetic sensibility and goals. This is what I do my best to provide for every individual that I meet in consultation.

My personal aesthetic sensibility is this: a good aesthetic cosmetic surgery result is a result that looks natural, not 'done'. I always delight in the patient who reports that their friends or their colleagues at work say "You look fantastic!", but that they can't quite put their finger on why.

The Latest and Greatest?
Today the popular media is filled with reports of the "latest and greatest" aesthetic treatments and procedures (including surgical procedures) many of which come and go in the blink of an eye. In some instances the "latest thing" may merely turn out to be ineffective, but in some cases it may turn out to have an unacceptably high risk of complications, and in a few cases it may turn out to be, quite frankly, dangerous. Additionally, a fair number of so-called 'new' treatments turn out to be recycled versions of older technology.

Our mission, in our fully-integrated medical spa and cosmetic surgery office, is to carefully research for our clients and patients which treatments and procedures are safe, effective and appropriate. We only incorporate technology and procedures into this practice which have been scientifically and reproducibly demonstrated to be just that: safe, effective and appropriate.

The Full Spectrum of Surgical and Medical Aesthetics For some time I have provided patients with both pre- and post-operative treatments by licensed aestheticians, including treatments such as medical skin rejuvenation, lymphatic drainage, medical massage and oxygen facials. These measures truly can enhance surgical results and speed recovery. Additionally, there are many aesthetic issues for which cosmetic surgery is not at all indicated or is not necessarily the best answer. Dramatic aesthetic enhancements can be accomplished with medical-level skin care treatments and products. We also successfully employ a number of non-surgical, minimally invasive and highly effective treatments including non-ablative laser skin tightening, Restylane® injection, BOTOX® injection, laser hair removal, sclerotherapy, and laser treatment of rosacea and facial 'spider veins'.
